Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

If you are like me and a bit OCD about taking off your make up, you need, yes NEED to get your mitts on Clinique's Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. 

The balm is no frills, it looks plain and has no scent, which in my opinion is fantastic especially when you have troubled skin like me. 

I use this cleanser every night, or soon as I get in from work. Its so simple, using your fingers massage the balm on to your face and watch your makeup melt away, no seriously, it literally takes off every single bit of makeup including mascara and eye makeup. I wash it all off then with a facecloth and hot water.

If you have problem skin like me, this is the best €28 you will spend I promise! I have noticed a massive difference in my skin in terms of pore size, and reduced redness. I've had mine for about two months now and have barely scratched the surface, I will defo get 6 months at least from this one pot. 

I don't know how I survived without this, and I will 100% not be changing from this cleanser for the foreseeable.

Paleo Treats

As I mentioned in my latest Fit Friday post I am trying to eat as clean as possible, but I do get cravings for nice things, so to make sure those nice things are as innocent as possible I have been looking at various paleo recipes and this weekend I had a go at making coconut buns (or cupcakes if you wanna be fancy), and energy paleo bars.

I got the coconut bun recipe from Irish Paleo Girl's wonderful blog. I was gonna list the ingredients but since its not my original recipe I think its only fair you follow the link to her blog! They were very simple to make, and took no time at all to cool. The consistency of them is very souffle-ish, they are very light, but they are really nice to taste and do not leave me with that ugh heavy feeling. The reason I picked them was because they are dairy free, gluten free, and no added sugar! NOM!

I got the paleo bar recipe from Dominic Munnelly's site and seriously it could not have been easier. They only take about two hours to chill so no cooking involved at all. They are quiet oily (don't worry its all good oils) so I would say that if your gonna bring them to work make sure to put them in tin foil and keep in a cool place or fridge if possible. They are fecking delish, I know they next time I get my sugar cravings I will be very satisfied with this healthy option. Again there is no added sugar, no gluten, but I can't be 100% sure they are completely dairy free as I know that some dark choc may have dairy trace.

Here is where I picked up the ingredients for these delish treats:
Coconut flour - Asian Food Shop
Coconut Oil - Asian Food Shop
Dessicated Coconut - Asian Food Shop
Almond Butter - Holland and Barrett or any health food store
Dark Chocolate - Lidl (70% + is good, do not go below)
Mixed Nuts - Lidl (ensure they are unsalted for them to be the healthy option)
Organic Honey - Lidl

Asian food shops are fantastic places to get your ingredients for a fraction of the price you would pay in health food shops. For e.g I paid €4 for the coconut oil, and only €4.80 for the coconut flour. If you live in/near Newbridge Co. Kildare there is a great Asian food shop up beside Joe Kellys barbers, and in Dublin there is a massive one in the Fonthill Retail Park.
Lidl do a great range of high percentage dark chocolates if you feel like changing it up a bit.

Fit Fridays - Getting in Gear 10th Jan 14

New year, new start and all that jazz so I've decided to resurrect my Fit Friday posts with the hope of giving you a bit of motivation (if your struggling), and some ideas for both food and fitness too.

I started playing hockey back in September and can wholeheartedly say that it is one of the best things I have ever done. I had never picked up a hockey stick in my life so it was quiet daunting to say the least. The club I am playing for is fantastic though, I have never been made to feel stupid or shite at training, and most importantly I am having such a laugh!! We train twice a week for 90 minutes and play a match every Saturday - this has defo been keeping me fit over the past few months. If there is a team sport you have always been itching to play I urge you to take the few brave steps and give it a go, you wont regret it.

Fitness motivation
I have been toying with the idea of joining a crossfit type gym over the past couple of weeks, and finally took the plunge this week. I'm really not too good at explaining what crossfit is, so if you're not sure have a nose at the video below. Jays I thought I was nervous joining hockey, well that was nothing compared to the fear in me on Tuesday. I was lucky enough that my friend decided to come along too, and my bessie is also one of the trainers. Well I felt bloody fantastic after, and even though it was a little intimidating it hasn't turned me off going back. I was back again last night for more punishment and can safely say I have not ached like this in years, but I have also not felt this good about exercising either. #nopainnogain as they say! I am going to keep it up two evenings a week from here on in.

Food wise I've been trying to stick to gluten free foods for the past few weeks as I've started to finally listen to my body and things like white bread really make me feel like shite! Its been pretty easy i have opted for gluten free porridge, have not been eating bread, replaced regular flour with gluten free or coconut flour, and the world of google has provided me with fantastic recipes. 

Going dairy free was a decision I made purely for aesthetic purposes. I have read in numerous places that dairy may aggravate/cause acne and mine is pretty bad again at the moment so I've cut out things like yogurts, drinking glasses of milk with my lunch, have switched to alpro soya for porridge and tea/coffee. I do miss cheese a little bit but sure I'll get over that, and I'm not going to kill myself with guilt if I do have some. 

Otherwise on the food front I've been eating as clean as possible, roughly following paleo guidelines. I've been sticking pics up Instagram, you can follow me coco_oscarwells if you like!

How to remove shellac at home..

If like me you don't have time to get to the beauticians to get Shellac off, here is how you can do it yourself at home. 

What you will need:
Nail polish remover that DOES contain acetone (I use the lidl own brand one)
Kitchen towel
Tea spoon

How to:
Put enough nail polish remover in bowl so that your nails can soak
Have kitchen towel in place for when you take your hand out and have spoon at the ready
Soak (one hand at a time) nails in the remover for about 10 mins.
Straight after taking them out scrape the shellac off with the teaspoon on to the kitchen towel. If it doesn't all come off stick them in again for another few mins and repeat!
Repeat on the other hand.

This is a tedious job if your some one who cant sit still for long but it works and means your nails aren't damaged when the shellac is completely gone.
